  • US Total Rewards program

The Markel team is rewarded and generously supported with a full array of benefits.

Markel’s Total Rewards program offers competitive compensation, retirement, and benefits, as well as career advancement opportunities. We focus on the total value of our employment offer, and we continuously seek to improve our offerings by tailoring our programs to serve the needs of our associates and their families.

Our total rewards strategy is simple: to provide competitive compensation opportunities, solid benefit choices, and professional development opportunities.

Markel has a pay-for-performance philosophy: your performance and contributions to the overall success of Markel are directly linked to your opportunity to earn financial rewards at Markel.

Base pay: We offer base pay that is externally competitive, internally equitable, and tied to performance.

Incentive compensation: The Annual Incentive Compensation program recognizes associates who perform above and beyond and achieve goals and objectives that contribute to the overall success of the company. Markel recognizes the initiative of associates as its most significant competitive advantage and is willing to reward efforts that contribute to the accomplishment of key business objectives.
Markel associates have access to exceptional medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plans—with full coverage for spouses and dependents.

Medical and prescription coverage: Markel offers two traditional PPO plans and two Consumer Plans with Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

Reimbursement accounts: These accounts provide tax savings on eligible healthcare, dependent care, and commuting expenses.

Vision coverage: Vision coverage assists in funding eye exams, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and frames.

Dental coverage: Dental coverage offers basic and major restorative services, such as orthodontia.

Onsite gym facilities/discounted gym memberships: Many Markel offices have onsite gym facilities and most Markel offices have discounted gym memberships to national fitness chains

Employee Assistance Program: This company-paid benefit provides professional and confidential assessments and referrals on a variety of topics to include retirement, relationship and family issues, legal, financial or wellness information.

Wellness: Markel’s wellness strategy is to create a culture of health that fosters a long-term commitment to healthy lifestyles and the reduction of health risks among our associates. Markel offers wellness credits for associates who fully participate in our wellness program, as well as provide other health-related resources and activities.

We offer several types of insurance to provide financial security for associates and their family, including:

    • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage

    • Business travel accident insurance

    • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability income

    • Life insurance
